It never ceases to amaze me how technology these days allows us to do the most remarkable things. I am still mesmerised by the new MP3 players and cellphones and the number of things you can do with them. I wish I had such mobile devices when I was a teenager. It’s no wonder that my daughters’ phones and MP3s have to amputated from them in order to recharge them up! They just can’t live without them, or so they tell me. The latest thing that fascinates me is the ability to watch TV on my computer. Now don’t get me wrong, I am NOT an addict to television and can quite happily live without it most of the time, but it always seems to be that when I actually DO want to watch something I have a battle on my hands to get the remote control and book my time to watch something that’s not on the normal TV channels.

I absolutely refuse to pay extra money to allow my kids satellite TV in their bedrooms, they simply would not get any sleep at night! However, I now have the ability to watch TV on my computer by simple technology and a one off payment which works out cheaper than Sky or other packages. How innovative is that? I can take the laptop to my bedroom and we can watch a film, documentary, or anything else in bed and don’t even need a television up there! I can see me visiting the shops soon to invest in a bigger screened laptop just for the purpose, seems a reasonable excuse to me anyway. I have no idea yet how easy or reliable this new concept is. I am told that it is extremely simple. Judging by the media hype and the number of sales I can only assume that this is the way forward for all of us parents with TV addicts for offspring who could simply to with an extra portable television. I think I have just persuaded myself to give it a try and maybe save myself a few battles for that remote control...
